Guidelines for Community Contributions

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air have a proud history of contribution, outreach and sponsorship in the communities we serve. Limited resources necessitate very focused giving, and support is generally granted on a one-time basis.

Giving to the Community

Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air are committed to supporting the communities where we operate and where our employees live and work. We embrace a rich heritage as a pioneer in a state where aviation plays a vital role in the life of every resident. From this spirit flows our belief in friendliness, service, genuine caring and community involvement.

Funding Philosophy

Both airlines provide charitable contributions to not-for-profit organizations supporting health and human services, arts, culture, education, environmental and civic organizations. We focus on communities served now or in the near future by Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, and where a significant number of our employees live or work. Given limited resources, contributions are concentrated in areas with the greatest number of employees -- in the states of Alaska, Oregon or Washington for example.

When considering requests we favor organizations and efforts that are most likely to enhance a community's cultural and economic vitality and improve the quality of life for its citizens.

Although our corporate giving programs do support a limited number of colleges and universities, our primary method of participating in the education category is by supporting our employees working to enhance the quality of education through our Employee Gift Matching and Dollars for Doers programs.

Neither Alaska Airlines or Horizon Air provides support for:

  • loans and grants to individuals or private business
  • groups that discriminate
  • endowments
  • religious organizations (if for sacramental purposes)
  • pageants
  • capital projects
  • multi-year commitment or automatic renewal grants
  • general operating expenses
  • publicly or privately funded educational institutions. Most schools-public or private-are eligible for funding through both company's Employee Gift Matching and Dollars for Doers programs.
  • Organizations whose prime purpose is to influence legislation
